The
International Center of Photography (ICP) is the world’s leading institution dedicated to photography and visual culture. With its expansion in downtown Manhattan where school, library and exhibition space will form one stage in Fall 2019, ICP will offer an unprecedented polymorphic environment, to create, experience and interpret the realm of the image.
ICP LAB launches as an online experimental space for independent emerging and established photographers, artists, scholars, curators and publishers to interact at the frontiers of social documentary, critical commentary and visual grammar.
In the aftermath of a drastically shrinking support and a lack of incubator model in visual journalism, photography as a thorough, complex and meaningful universal language has never been more vibrant in its independence, its investigative nature, its everyday expression, and its artistic endeavor.
Arising from this shifting landscape, ICP LAB aims to be an interchange for the new wave of artists and storytellers, scholars, poets and essayists to mingle with the established talents in visual storytelling and critical thinking. It is a space dedicated to supporting new voices as well as activating the past to illuminate present issues.
Introducing discussions around themes and multi-disciplinary contributors, ICP LAB invites its online audience to:
— unplugged conversations #criticaljamming
— the convergence of reality and fiction in #extrememetaphors
— the celebration of independent publishing with the #bookplaylist
— #anthropop commentaries on digital cultures with #instagrammar
